At least six fire, police, and other agencies battled a massive grass fire in Shakopee.

The blaze, which has been sending black plumes of smoke into the air, could be seen for miles.

It started Wednesday afternoon in an area near Highway 169 and Canterbury Road--located near Deans Lake, Canterbury Downs, and Valley Fair.

Deans Lake Nature Preserve and nearby neighborhoods were evacuated. No one was injured.

While the fire has been contained, fire crews are continuing to monitor the area for potental hot spots.

Shakopee Fire Chief Rick Coleman told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the fire started from a recreational burn. He believes a homeowner was burning leaves, grass, and trash on their property when it got out of control.

Coleman says at least 100 acres of land was scortched. Officials are investigating the blaze.
