A St. Paul family has only two days to find the dog that bit their daughter. If they don't, the little girl will have to go through a series of painful rabies shots.
Arianna Buckhanan and her sisters love playing with their 12-week-old puppy. While their dog covers them in kisses, Arianna says another dog left her with stitches and some scary memories.
Friday afternoon the girls were at a park on Duluth Street when, they say, a man came out of the woods walking several dogs.
"I said ‘Oh that dog is pretty’ and he said, ‘Don't touch that one, that one will bite you’," said Katrina Buckhanan, Arianna’s sister.
Arianna says she didn't touch the dog, but it lunged at her anyway.
"The dog just like jumped on her and grabbed her arm with his teeth and she just looked at it and started screaming because she seen all the blood coming out," said Mary Nelson, Arianna’s mother.
Nelson rushed to the park where, she says, she saw the dogs owner, but in her panic never asked his name and says he didn't offer it.
"My main concern was seeing how bad it was," Nelson said.
Now her main concern is finding out more about the dog that bit her daughter and finding out quickly. If they don't find the dog before Tuesday, Arianna has to get rabies shots.
"She's got to go through a total of four and they're very painful, very, very painful," Nelson said.
The family reported the bite to St. Paul Police, but with time running out, they hope the dog's owner will turn himself in, either at the police department or just by letting the family know who he is.
"I need information about him. I need information about his dog, just so that the dog can be quarantined so she doesn't have to go through the rabies vaccinations," Nelson said.
