Fatal snowplow accident victim identified

Minneapolis Police say a handicapped man was crossing the street when he was hit and killed by a snowplow.

The incident happened at the intersection of Glenwood and Lyndale avenues at about 8 p.m.

The victim, identified as 59-year-old Rural Bonner Jr. of Minneapolis, was crossing the street using a walker. According to police, the snowplow had the right of way.

"The plow had the green light and witnesses on northbound Lyndale were stopped at the red light, they corroborate that," said Minneapolis Police Sgt. Jesse Garcia. "The victim was walking across the street against the 'Don't Walk' and obviously the snowplow didn't see him and hit him."

Police say Bonner was wearing light-colored clothes and that may have contributed to why the plow driver was not able to see him.
