Minneapolis police say four people are seriously injured after a car crash Thursday afternoon.

It happened on Broadway Avenue between Monroe Street and Madison Street Northeast around 2:30 p.m. Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder says the two vehicles were driving eastbound and swiped each other. One vehicle accelerated and hit a tree.

Five people were transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. Four have serious injuries. Authorities say a baby was in one of the vehicles but was not injured.

Elder says the accident is minor and does not appear intentional. The cause is still under investigation.
