Minneapolis Police say a squad car hit a pedestrian Friday night. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident happened near the intersection of 41st Avenue North and Fremont Avenue North just before 5 p.m. Police say the officer driving the squad was not in emergency mode, so he did not have his lights or siren on.

"There is nothing in the preliminary information that makes us believe speed was a factor," Minneapolis Police Spokesman John Elder said.

There are no crosswalks at that intersection. Police say pedestrians do have the right of way at intersections, according to state law.

A neighbor says the man was trying to cross the street with his two daughters when he was hit.

"He's partially blind. He can't see out of his peripheral," Angela Johnson said. "He probably didn't even see the cop coming."

Police say they are still investigating the incident to find out exactly what happened.
