A Brooklyn Center man is charged in the murder of Minneapolis man on the Fourth of July.
Authorities charged Joseph Smith, 24, with second-degree murder Wednesday. The shooting happened shortly after a fist fight outside a home on Dupont Avenue North, according to the criminal complaint. Two men were in a fist fight when one of the men was knocked out. Twenty-eight-year-old Cabrie Young was trying to help the victim get inside the home when Smith allegedly ran up and started shooting at Young. Young ran into the house. Authorities said Smith followed and continued shooting.
Minneapolis police found Young dead inside the home when they arrived at the scene around midnight.
There is a vigil Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at 34th Avenue North and Dupont Avenue North. Minneapolis MADDADS is hosting the community vigil.
