A driver of a Metro Transit bus that ran down a sidewalk near 11th Street and Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis Friday morning has died.

KSTP Photojournalist Todd Raaen reports the bus hopped the curb on Nicollet Mall, took out a garbage can, smashed the awning on WCCO-TV's building and then went across 11th Street. It happened around 10 a.m.

The bus ended up on the corner of Peavey Plaza.

Metro Transit officials say the driver had a medical condition behind the wheel and was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died Friday afternoon.

His identity is being released pending notification of family members.

We're told no passengers or pedestrians were seriously hurt, but one passenger was taken to HCMC with an ankle injury. The bus also hit a bicyclist who had a minor injury.
