The pilot and passenger in the small plane that crashed into a home in Sauk Rapids Friday night are dead, according to Sauk Rapids Police.

It happened in a residential neighborhood on the 700 block of Garden Place around 8:30 p.m.

The home was fully engulfed in flames and the area was filled with smoke when officials arrived on the scene, according Sauk Rapids Mayor Brad Gunderson.

Gunderson said the fire was out around 10 p.m. and fire crews were removing siding from the home.

The St. Cloud Times reports the homeowner was not home at the time of the crash, but his brother-in-law was, and was not hurt.

Additional details were not immediately available.

Sauk Rapids is located near St. Cloud, in Benton County.
