A woman died after she was hit by a METRO Blue Line train Friday afternoon in south Minneapolis, according to Metro Transit police.

The accident occurred near the intersection of east 35th Street and Hiawatha Avenue (Highway 55) around 2:50 p.m., police say.

Markers in the crosswalk were down, signaling a train was coming, police say. The woman was walking just north of the crosswalk as the train was heading southbound.

Trains were running on the line around 5:10 p.m. A replacement bus service filled in for Blue Line trains between Franklin Avenue and 46th Street stations after the accident.

Authorities and Metro Transit police are investigating.

Police say this is the 11th fatality in the ten years the line has been running.

No further information is available at this time.
