The city of Golden Valley is hoping to get state attention and investment in the Highway 169 corridor north of 394.

Mayor Shep Harris says the area is home to several large corporate headquarters which contribute large amounts of traffic during both rush hours, "Four different access point, either entry or exit points between simply one to two miles."

Harris says the highway has been over looked in recent years, "Parts of 169 have been fixed to the south, they've been fixed to the north and this area has been ignored for a variety of reasons."

The Golden Valley City Council met with Minnesota Department of Transportation officials Tuesday night. The hope is to begin making a case for the highway's need for attention, and invite MnDOT to join with the city to seek funding from state legislators.

Harris says a successful effort will have to involve all stake holders. "What we're looking for is a partnership with our neighbors, with MnDOT, with the businesses along the 169 corridor," Harris said.

The meeting was described on the agenda as "US Highway 169 Improvement Process", which accurately describes the early stages of the effort.

Harris says he expects the process to take years, "Best case scenario? And this is just an estimation, five years. And that's if we get the support of MnDOT, and if we get the support of the legislature and the governor."
