What started out as an April Fools' Day prank may land a Hopkins man in trouble with the law.

Davion Eady, 18, texted his mom at work that their home was on fire. She quickly called 9-1-1.

Fire trucks and police raced to the house only to find out it was an April Fools' joke.

"It was just a joke. I looked out the window and then I saw them, and I was just surprised... they were pretty ticked off that they had to come here. They just told me next time I should play a better April Fools' joke," Eady said.

Eady now faces possible misdemeanor charges and a fine of more then $500.

The state just toughened the penalties last year for people who make fake 9-1-1 calls.

The penalties can range from a year in prison and a $3,000 fine to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
