A late-season winter storm has dumped more than 9 inches of snow on central Minnesota.

The National Weather Service reports Collegeville had received 9.5 inches of snow by Tuesday afternoon. Avon reports 9 inches of snow, Little Falls reports 8 inches, and Madison, New Munich and Mora report 7 inches.

Interstate 94 eastbound near Opportunity Drive in St. Cloud was closed for about an hour midday Tuesday due to multiple crashes as the road became slippery due to snow and ice.

Morning Chief Meteorologist Ken Barlow says 2.3 inches of new snow fell at the official site of the Twin Cities at MSP, bringing the total snow this season to 60.9 inches, which is about a foot above normal to date.

Skies will slowly clear and the sun will make an appearance, boosting temperatures well into the 30s, Ken says.

Make sure to fill the wiper fluid Wednesday, Ken says; it will be sloppy out there with all the melting that will be going on.

Quiet weather with just a bit of light snow on Friday is in the extended forecast into the weekend, and a big and cold area of fair weather will settle into the Upper Midwest for the weekend.
