An incident involving a dummy grenade forced a St. Paul elementary school to temporarily evacuate Friday morning.
A student at the Heights Community School had brought a hollowed out grenade in his backpack, according to St. Paul Public Schools District Spokesperson Toya Stewart Downey.
The school was made aware of the situation around 10:30 a.m. Students were evacuated immediately and sat on warm busses while authorities investigated, Stewart Downey said.
It is not believed students were in any danger. Stewart Downey said the student probably brought it to show to his friends, not to inflict harm.
The district said it will review the student handbook to determine any repercussions.
The Heights Community School, located on Clear Avenue, has 550 enrolled students from kindergarten through sixth grades.
