Polar Bear Plungers Brave the Frigid Temps for Charity

It didn't matter if the thermometer was in the single digits, some people just had to jump into Lake Calhoun on Saturday morning.

The Polar Bear Plunge is an opportunity for individuals, organizations and businesses to support Special Olympics athletes by jumping into frigid Minnesota waters.

Groups dressed up as doctors, superheroes, and ice cubes.

According to the event website, more than $2.6 million has been raised so far. During its first year in 1998, the event raised $20,000.

The U.S. Bank participants raised the most money Saturday by bringing in more than $121,000.
