The mail comes whether there's rain, sleet or snow. Unfortunately, so do thieves.

Police Departments across the metro from Roseville to Woodbury to Eden Prairie to North St. Paul are investigating an uptick in theft from mailboxes.

Lt. Lorne Rosand from Roseville attributes the increase in cases to tax season, and all the sensitive information that's being mailed back and forth.

"You've got a gold mine.  People can do a lot of damage with that information," Rosand said.

In Roseville, police are looking for a suspect in a red Toyota Rav4, who they say has been seen stealing mail from mailboxes in Roseville and Woodbury.

Experts say you should never put the red flag up on your mailbox when you have outgoing mail and try to pay as many bills as you can online.
