The St. Paul Winter Carnival hosted its annual Royal Coronation Friday.

Roger C. Kruse of Anoka was crowned King Boreas LXXVIII and Abby Hoglin of Lakeville was crowned Aurora, Queen of the Snows. See the 2014 St. Paul Winter Carnival Royal family here.

Events throughout the weekend include the Securian Winter Run, Royal Family Day Roller Skating and the Carnival Beer Dabbler on Saturday.

Ice carving teams kicked off 48 hours of competition Thursday by beginning to shape 20 blocks of pre-packed ice.

Three-member teams will be challenged to create art in 30 hours using pre-packed blocks of snow Friday. The single block competition is on Sunday.

The Carnival will go until Feb. 2, with events happening daily. KSTP.com Meteorologist Dave Dahl will be the Grand Marshall for the Grand Day Parade.

The event began Thursday, with a pedestrian parade and a pre-carnie party at the St. Paul Hotel.

Crews were hard at work in St. Paul's Rice Park Wednesday, putting some of the finishing touches on what will be a major hub of activity at this year's Winter Carnival.

Organizers expect a crowd of 350,000 people to attend the Winter Carnival throughout the week.
