Shakopee Police say a body found in the Minnesota River is believed to be that of a missing man who never returned home after going fishing Wednesday.

Emergency crews say 37-year-old Eric Michael Lindquist was last seen by family members at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. They say he walked to Memorial Park to go fishing on the Minnesota River.

Dive team robots found the body in about nine feet of water, about 30 feet from the hole they think Lindquist may have fallen through.

Shakopee Police, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol searched for him using snowmobiles, an airboat and a helicopter for the past few days. Crews recovered a body Friday morning and say they believe it's Lindquist.

We talked to Lindquist's father, Bruce, on Friday. He started searching for his son Wednesday and didn't give up until he had to.  "This day is the worst day of my life. When you lose a son, an only son, what else can it be?"

He said his son knew the river pretty well, but he said he may have become disoriented in the dark.

KSTP asked Sheriff Kevin Studnicka if he'd advise against people fishing on the Minnesota river. He didn't go that far, but he did say his friends who fish out there -- always use life jackets.
