The state Senate's chief Republican says Democrats should delay a vote that would allow plans to move forward for a $63 million Capitol office building and $27 million parking structure.

Senate Minority Leader David Hann says Tuesday that a scheduled vote by the Senate Rules Committee should be delayed until after a court hearing next week on a lawsuit challenging the building plans. The Rules Committee meets Wednesday.

Republicans question the need for the building intended to house state senators and add larger hearing rooms. The GOP also is critical of Democrats for authorizing its construction in a tax bill, which is not typical for approving large state building projects.

A Senate Democratic spokesman says the Rules meeting will give the project's critics a chance to air their concerns.
