The annual "Give to the Max" day usually brings out generosity, but this year it brought out so many givers that the website crashed.

GiveMN.org, the official website, crashed at about 1 p.m. on Thursday due to an influx of visitors to the site.

Minnesotans donated more than $9 million before the crash.

The initiative ran until 11:59 p.m., and the site was working intermittently in the evening. A total of $17 million were raised on Thursday.

Razoo, the crowd-source funding website GiveMN.org uses to collect donations, already experienced issues when it decided to up its rates from 2.9 percent of every donation to 4.9 percent.

For more information on the rates increase, click here.

GiveMN statement:

"The amount of volume from the tremendous outpouring of support for our state’s nonprofits and schools overwhelmed Razoo’s servers and thus GiveMN.org at 12:30 p.m. on Give to the Max Day. Razoo is the technology partner for GiveMN.org.

At approximately 4 p.m. the site came back up. The site access may still be intermittent. We encourage people to keep donating and appreciate their patience throughout tonight (Thursday night).

We will take the time to review the best options for awarding the prize grants, given the unexpected, disappointing interruption of service.

We again thank all Minnesotans for their generosity and patience on what has been a frustrating, yet incredible, day."
