The Academy of the Holy Angels is considering a nearly $6 million offer by a local developer to buy a portion of the school's east lawn.

The space would be converted to retail buildings like a bank, a drug store and a yogurt shop. The buildings would maintain the look and feel of the rest of the campus.

Some alumni are supportive of the idea, others are skeptical. There's concern about the traffic and activity it could bring to campus. Others say the east lawn is a focal point of campus, and an important piece of history.

The Academy released this statement saying, "We are intrigued by this innovative approach and the financial benefits it could bring to our school. The college preparatory environment here at The Academy of Holy Angels is second to none and this potential plan does not change that."

The school hopes to make a decision in the next month or two.
