Last month, two active duty Army recruiters were hit by an SUV in Roseville. Sgt. First Class Travis Torgerson was dragged for nearly a mile. He suffered serious injuries including a broken leg, broken tailbone and several broken ribs. Staff Sgt. Michael Stroud survived with only minor injuries.

"We're a good man down," Stroud said during an interview at the recruitment center Tuesday.

Next month, the community will gather to support Torgerson and his family. A benefit will be held at Calvary Church in Roseville from 12:30 to 4 p.m. on November 3rd.

"More people come in just to see how he's doing, some people that were here shopping that day stop by to ask his progress in the hospital and just to check up on him," Stroud said.

Torgerson has served in Bosnia, Saudi Arabia, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq. He and his wife have two young children. Torgerson is still recovering at Hennepin County Medical Center and could face more surgery.

"As soldiers we are physically fit, we like to go out and do things athletically, and it takes away an entire part of our life," Stroud said.

The benefit will feature a lunch buffet with silent and live auctions. Any monetary donations can be deposited into the Travis Torgerson Benefit Fund at any TCF Bank.
