Groundbreaking for the new Vikings stadium is set to take place soon, but some of the things fans would have benefited from, are no longer part of the plan. That's because bids have exceeded the budget by $20 to $30 million dollars.

On the north side of the stadium, a 400-stall parking garage was slated to be built. But the ramp has been cut.

Michele Kelm-Helgen with the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority says this is typical with a massive project like this.

"With the construction field picking up, there is more construction going on in the Twin Cities, which is a good thing, we are just finding some of the bids are coming back a little higher than what we had originally hoped for," says Michele Kelm-Helgen.

Kelm-Helgen says fans shouldn't worry about parking. 240 additional spaces have been added to an adjacent ramp.

Also, the authority has identified some surface lots for additional cars.

"You could do 150 cars perhaps, its close too, it's about a block and a half of land, so a little bigger than a normal block," Kelm-Helgen says.

A skyway linked to another parking ramp to the south has been cut, and those massive 95 foot glass pivoting doors are now slated to be just 78 feet tall.

Kelm-Helgen says there is a $62 million dollar contingency fund used for things like potential soil clean-up or shipping delays. If not used, that could be tapped later on to include some of what's been cut.
