Minnesota officially has a new quarterback. Josh Freeman officially signed his contract to play with the Minnesota Vikings on Monday.
He didn't make it in time for practice. However, in a conference call, Rick Spielman said, "We are getting Josh ready to play."
Spielman said, "He is very talented as a passer. He is a big QB with a strong arm that can do a lot of good things."
Earlier Monday, Coach Leslie Frazier said there's not enough time for Freeman to learn the offense and play this weekend at Carolina, but the Vikings didn't sign him just for depth. They're trying to save the season after losing their first three games.
Frazier said Christian Ponder is still the starter if he's healthy, but he's recovering from a broken rib that kept him out of the win over Pittsburgh Sept. 29. Matt Cassel played that game and will keep the job if Ponder isn't cleared for action.
With all the buzz about Freeman being signed, there is lots of talk on whether Ponder's health is improving. Click here to watch our interview from Ponder.
