Even though the Minnesota Wild lost their home opener 3-2 in a shootout vs. the Los Angeles Kings, it’s still a win for businesses around the Xcel Energy Center.

Fans were especially pumped up for this season, since last year had a late start due to the NHL lockout.

Businesses, like Eagle Street Grille, were ready to make up for lost business. Last year, they had to lay off two thirds of their staff while games were canceled.

Now, they've hired a full staff and then some, in hopes of a great season. "We're excited for this season. I think it's going to be a great one and I think it stands to say a lot for the City of St. Paul that we're back playing hockey and the businesses are still here," said Joe Kasel with Eagle Street Grille.

The City of St. Paul estimates that the 18,000 fans who come to one game will spend about $50 outside of their ticket price. That's about $900,000 coming into the area per game.
