Thousands Walk for Ovarian Cancer Awareness
Thousands of folks from across the Twin Cities met in Edina Saturday morning to fight a disease that kills thousands of women every year.
The Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance hosted a 5K run and 2K walk at Rosland Park to help raise money for research and programs within the state.
The Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance is one of the largest nonprofit funders for ovarian cancer in the nation. This year they passed their $4 million mark for research funding.
The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2013 about 22,240 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed and 14,030 women will die of ovarian cancer in the United States.
More than 3,500 people attended Saturday's event, organizers say.
