Fairgoers came out in full force in the last days of the Minnesota State Fair, breaking attendance records on Sunday and Monday.
On Sunday, 236,197 visitors entered fair gates, making it the best-attended single day in State Fair history. Labor Day's 164,277 visitors set an attendance record for the fair's final day.
Extreme heat and high humidity for seven of the fair's 12 days kept attendance lower than usual for most of the Great Minnesota Get-Together, but the two record-breaking days helped boost overall attendance in 2013 to 1,731,162. That figure is lower than 2012's total attendance of 1,788,512.
State Fair officials reported that Macklemore and Ryan Lewis and Tim McGraw with Brantley Gilbert performed to sold-out crowds in the grandstand. Overall attendance for ticketed grandstand shows was 85,234.
