Officials Urge Safety as Summer Boating Season Ends
Labor Day is the un-official end of the summer boating and swimming season. The Hennepin County Sheriff's Water Patrol is hoping for a safe end to the warm weather recreation.
Lt. Art Saunders from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Water Patrol says 2013's summer statistics are a success story, "I think it's been a good year. We haven't had any drowning this year, so that's always a good thing. "
Sheriff's deputies will be out in force this upcoming holiday weekend patrolling and checking to make sure anyone driving a boat isn't drinking. Lt. Saunders says every effort is made to get the message out, "I almost get to the point of pleading, please have a designated boater if there's going to be alcohol on the boat."
