Vikes Stadium Might Have Another Delay for Ground Breaking

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has learned the new Vikings Stadium could face another delay for ground breaking.  A state lawmaker tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS The Legislative Commission on Minnesota Sports Facilities, a group of ten lawmakers appointed to oversee the budget and funding of the Vikinings Stadium construction, is putting together a resolution that would recommend not selling any bonds until the independent investigation into the finances of Vikings' owne, Zigi Wilf, is complete. The Commission is appointed by the leaders in the Minnesota and House and this resolution, if passed, would be sent to Governor Dayton because the Executive Branch determines when the bonds for stadium construction are sold.

State Representative, Joe Atkins, (DFL) Inver Grove Heights, tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS he is writing the resolution has the support of two other Commission members. Six votes would be needed for it to pass. There is a possibility, if the resolution is passed and the Govenor accepts the recommendation, that ground breaking for the Vikings Stadium could be pushed back again. The Chair of the Minnesota Sports Authority, the agency in charge of the stadim construction, has said ground breaking would not happen until the bond sale is in progress, or about to start.
