The Minnesota Department of Transportation reopened a busy section of Highway 62 Crosstown, that was closed this weekend in order to demolish the Penn Avenue Bridge between South Minneapolis and Richfield.

MnDOT closed Highway 62 in both directions between Highway 100 and I-35W Friday. Eastbound Highway 62 was also shut down on France Avenue.

The highway will remain open until more bridge work is scheduled.

The $1.6 million bridge project included removing and replacing the Penn Ave. Bridge deck, panels and approaches, replacing the bridge rails and upgrading pedestrian crossings at ramp intersections.

Visit the MnDOT website for more information on the closure and Hwy. 62 Penn & Xerxes project.
