A father and his 1-year-old son were seriously injured after a crash with an armed robbery suspect in Monticello.
The broadside crash happened near Broadway Street and Fenning Avenue around 5:40 p.m. Monday, July 22.
The chase started after an armed robbery at Tootsies Tavern, 110 Jefferson Blvd. in Big Lake, according to the Minnesota State Patrol and the Big Lake Police Department.
Police tried to stop the suspect following the robbery, later identified as 47-year-old Kevin Green of Monticello, but he took off and the chase ensued. The suspect's vehicle traveled south on Highway 25 towards Monticello.
Shortly after, a Big Lake officer found the suspect stopped at a red light on Highway 25 at Broadway in Monticello, police reported. The officer kept a distance to wait for back up to arrive when the suspect made an abrupt left turn through traffic and rapidly sped east on Broadway.
The officer activated his emergency lights and siren, attempting to stop the suspect, police reported, but the suspect continued fleeing east on Broadway.
That's when the suspect's vehicle hit another vehicle traveling south on County Road 39, police reported.
Twenty-eight-year-old Travis Kolles of Monticello and his 1-year-old son, Layton Kolles, were in the other vehicle. Both were seriously injured.
Green suffered non-life threatening injuries. He is currently in Wright County Jail.
