A Minneapolis man has been charged in the killing of a man after a fatal punch to his head.

Tristan Keys, 21, was charged in Hennepin County District Court with first-degree manslaughter involving the April 29 killing of Lamar Wilson, 53, of Apple Valley.

Keys is expected to appear in court Friday.

Police were called about 10:35 p.m. April 29 to the Stop N Shop, 3050 First Ave. S, in Minneapolis. Upon arrival, Wilson was on the ground with blood on the right side of his face, the attorney's office stated.

Wilson was shaking and having trouble breathing, according to the criminal complaint.

Witnesses told police that Wilson pulled into the Stop N Shop. An SUV also pulled up and someone in that vehicle accused Wilson of being a snitch.

Wilson got out of his van to talk to people in the SUV, the attorney's office said. The driver got out, punched Wilson once in the head and he dropped to the pavement, "like a rag doll," a witnesses told police, the complaint stated. Police eventually identified Keys, who said he was the driver of the SUV and was at the store that night.

Wilson was declared brain dead a day after the punch, reported the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner ruled that Wilson died of blunt force trauma with complications from craniocerebral injury.
