Experts Warn of Lake Bacteria after Recent Rainfall
Now that the weather is warming up, Minnesotans are getting outside to enjoy the lakes. But, recent rain has made swimming in the lakes risky.
Because of all the precipitation we've had, we're now seeing contamination, so pollution control experts say be sanitary- or it could make you sick.
Bacteria can enter the body, and the exposure can cause infection. Experts say after a heavy rain it's best to wait a day to get into the water.
But, precautions can save sun-starved swimmers who just can't stay away.
Health officials advise anyone with open wounds not to swim in lakes.
You should also wash your hands after touching the water because bacteria can easily make its way into your body when you eat.
