45th Anniversary of Tracy, Minn. Tornado

On a clear and sunny day 45 years ago, tragedy struck the tiny town of Tracy, Minn., about three hours southwest of the Twin Cities.

After a severe storm rapidly developed, Minnesota's first EF-5 tornado in recorded history hit Tracy with devastating consequences. There has been only one other EF-5 since then.

Hundreds of homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed. Nine people were killed, 171 were injured.

The tornado towered hundreds of feet high packing winds in the range of 260 to 275 miles per hour.

It even tossed a 25-ton boxcar two blocks.
