Just 25 minutes into the 2013 Minnesota Fishing Opener, Gov. Mark Dayton reeled in a 'pretty good-sized' walleye.
According to the Governor's Twitter account, he caught the fish at 12:25 a.m. in Park Rapids, while fishing in Hook River.
He later released the fish.
Many lakes in the northern third of Minnesota are still icy.
The DNR warned many heading out about the dangers of the ice and cold water. They urged anglers to wear a life vest.
