Gay Marriage Supporters Celebrate at Capitol after Historic Vote

The gay, lesbian and transgender community celebrated a triumph from the floor to the balcony within the walls of the State Capitol.

Thursday's vote is one more step closer to validating their love.

"We're going to have so many more rights than we have now," supporter Nina Cocchiarella said.

Thursday's vote is a move that is leading towards same-sex marriage in the state of Minnesota. Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak showed up and joined the celebrations. He's a big supporter and was seen posing for pictures.

"All we're asking is that everybody in Minnesota be treated equally, and I believe in Minnesota and I think this proved it today," Mayor Rybak said.

Not everyone at the capitol shared his optimism. Some opponents of the vote sang a somber song on the steps of the Capitol. One woman sat silently in a state of shock.

"It's going to happen," an opponent of the bill said, while nearby a mother and son continued to oppose the decision.

"If they pass the legislation it's not fair because this is our kids future and it's our rights," Fadumo Yusaf said.

Whether it is fair or not the House has spoken with its votes. We now turn our attention to the Senate.

It appears the gay marriage bill will pass at least on party lines. Come Monday we'll see if anyone steps away from their party. The governor says he'll sign it.
