Veteran Groups Lobbying for Stadium Contract Work

A new home for the Minnesota Vikings promises big opportunities for Minnesota veterans.

They could play a significant role in building the multimillion-dollar stadium.

The problem is few veteran owned businesses have actually been certified in Minnesota. Certification can take up to 18 months.

Since stadium general contractor, Mortenson Construction, could begin letting contracts in 6-8 months, the rush is on to attain certification. It's why veteran advocates, like the United Veterans Legislative Council, are attempting to help verify small businesses are truly veteran owned prior to official VA certification.

These veterans are hoping for 10 percent of the stadium work. It's a lofty goal.

Unlike minority and women owned businesses, there is no stated goal for veterans.

Still, veterans are optimistic as the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Authority has said it wants to include veterans in stadium construction efforts.

Additionally, Mortenson Construction is owned by a Navy veteran.
