Employees Search for Gun Accidentally Donated to Goodwill

Millions of items are donated to Goodwill every year, ranging from the practical to the bizarre. Late last month, a gun was donated by accident.

A Smith and Wesson .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol was dropped off at either the Hudson, Wis., or Woodbury Goodwill on Saturday, Jan 26. The gun owner told police he had forgotten the weapon between two pairs of Dockers pants that had been donated.

Goodwill representatives say they have searched for the gun but it has not been found.

"We took very careful measures to look at all of the donated boxes of textiles. So that would be in this case, apparel and jeans, and took great care in looking at the donated items from the day of Saturday and at that point we have not reported any type of weapon or illegal contraband that has been picked up," said Lisa Ritter, Director of Marketing for Goodwill Easter Seals Minnesota.

Neither Woodbury nor Hudson Police anticipate any charges against the gun owner.
