Minn. Teen Driving Summit 'Don't be a Headline'
Car crashes are the number one cause of death for U.S. Teens.
So teaching your teens about safe driving can be a life saver, that's what today's "Teen Safe Driving Summit" is trying to do in Maplewood.
The theme for today's summit, was "Don't Be a Headline."
According to Minnesota Safety Council, teens are 23 times more likely to be in a crash while texting, and five times for likely to crash while talking on the phone.
Teens were given the chance to try out a distracted driving simulation, where deer could pop out, or pedestrians could be crossing the street at any moment. It's an effort to teach teens that it only takes a second of not paying attention to get into a crash.
Today's pledge to drive distraction-free involves promising to keep their eyes and mind on the road at all times.
And remember that everyone on the road is someone's family member.
