Minn. Bus Driver Charged After Boy Left on Bus

A school-bus driver from Mahtowa is accused of leaving a 3-year-old boy alone on the bus for three hours while outside temperatures were in the single digits.

A Duluth News Tribune report says 53-year-old Thomas Mitchell Soderholm was charged Friday with child endangerment.

The criminal complaint says the boy was in the first row, suggesting that he should have been easy to see.

A Fond du Lac Transportation employee who was walking by the bus noticed the boy waving and pounding on the window.

The reservation's transportation department policy is to have a bus monitor make sure no kids are left behind. Soderholm told investigators the monitor told him the bus was empty.

Fond du Lac Chairwoman Karen Diver says Soderholm no longer works for the reservation.
