South Mpls. Fire Causes Property and Personal Loss

Two long-time Minneapolis businesses were destroyed Thursday night:  Diamond Lake Rental and Beek's Pizza.

Beek's Pizza was considered a neighborhood icon, sitting at 54th and Lyndale since 1963.

"I grew up in this neighborhood and remember coming down to Beek's every once in a while.  It's sad to see it go," said neighboring business owner Dan Campo.

Diamond Lake Rental had been in business for thirteen years.  Co-owner Toni Graham says she's not sure if they'll rebuild or relocate.

"It's just really tough.  It's your livelihood," she said.

Cold temperatures made battling the blaze difficult for firefighters.  The fire hoses kept freezing to the ground and the firefighters themselves were caked in thin sheets of ice.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
