17-Year-Old Charged with Fatal Punch to be Tried as Adult

The 17-year-old charged in the death of an Orono graduate will be prosecuted as an adult.

Jessie Jean Smithers of Sauk Rapids is accused of punching 20-year-old Colton Gleason in an alley in St. Cloud in September. Colton died a day later.

Smithers is charged with second degree murder, first degree manslaughter, and first degree assault.

A conditional bail was set at $500,000 and an unconditional bail was set at $1 million. The next hearing will be Thursday, Jan. 17.
