Airport Screeners Find 1,500 Firearms in 2012
Airport screeners at security checkpoints found more than 1,500 firearms in 2012.
That’s an average of more than four guns found every day, and it’s up from the more than 1,300 weapons found in 2011.
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta led the nation with 80 guns found, followed by airports in Dallas, Phoenix, Houston, and Denver.
It’s not clear if the increase is because more people are traveling with weapons or if TSA screeners and new technologies are just doing a better job of finding them.
