Church Service to Connect Crime Victims with Counselors

A one of a kind statewide worship devoted to those who've lost loved ones to homicide will take place Saturday.

Reverend Jerry McAfee, pastor at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in North Minneapolis, is organizing the service. McAfee says he has officiated far too many funerals and is reaching out to the families and friends of murder victims in Minnesota over the last twenty years.

The problem, McAfee says, is that many loved ones never receive the mental health services they need to cope. Besides grief support staffers, the service will connect those traumatized by the loss of a loved one to murder with counselors who can help.

The worship program includes a list of hundreds of Minnesota murder victims. Each will be honored.

The service is from 12-2:00 PM Saturday at New Salem Missionary Baptist. All are welcome.
