Canceled Flights Cause Difficulty for Sandy Volunteers
Volunteers have a difficult time getting to those who need them.
The storm closed airports in New York and New Jersey which resulted in 80 flights being canceled at MSP International.
It meant Minnesotans had to get creative.
Mark Steffer, a Red Cross volunteer, caught a Tuesday night flight to D.C. and planned to drive the rest of the way to help out at a shelter in New Jersey.
The Red Cross has already deployed 13 volunteers and says ten others are on standby.
In addition to the Red Cross, the state's five person emergency response team prepositioned near Boston will redeploy to New York.
Xcel Energy will also send a crew to West Virginia Wednesday morning.
