Friends and Family Remember Tensia Richards
Michael Martinez says a few words about his sister Tensia Richard at a memorial in her honor.
"we have all lost something, I have lost something, the Martinez family has lost someone," Michael Martinez said.
Gathering is a mix of family and friends. The tribute is being held in a field adjacent to the Jimmy John's restaurant where Tensia was gunned down Thursday.
Police say, her husband Chevel Richard chased her inside and shot her. He then turned the gun on himself and died later at the hospital. Police say, Tensia had filed for divorce from her husband. They say, the couple had a history of domestic abuse.
Katie Burger, a friend says, Tensia tried to hide the mistreatment.
"She didn't want a lot of people to know with the situation with Chevel but we never wanted to see it. She was leaving him so we were hoping for the best," Burger said.
Most of these folks here say, they found out about Tensia's death on Facebook. So they started calling and text each other to confirm what they had read.
"it just feels like a nightmare that you can't wake up from," friend Shauna Pierce said.
While tears are shed and hugs are given, all of these folks say. . .
"She was just there for you, the most caring, loving person there ever could be," Burger said.
