Deceased Man Runs for Rochester City Council President

Voters in Rochester have an interesting dilemma on the ballot next month. Although there are two choices for city council president, one of them is no longer living.

Longtime and popular politician Denny Hanson died from a brain aneurysm last June. Minnesota law says Hanson's name cannot be removed from the ballot. If Hanson wins, a special election with new candidates would be held next spring. Hanson's widow chose to continue his campaign for re-election.

Also in the Rochester City Council President race is Jan Throndson and Jeff Thompson, who is running as a write-in candidate.
