Belgrade Teacher Dies in Semi vs. Bike Crash

A high school teacher is dead after being hit by a semi on a dark central Minnesota highway.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, 38-year-old Richard Vos of Belgrade was riding a bicycle south on Highway 71 when he was hit by a semi around 4:50 a.m. Tuesday.

Vos was a math teacher, head wrestling coach and junior high track and field coach at Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa, according to a Booster Club blog.

According to the blog, "Vos was very passionate about the B-B-E wrestling program. He worked tirelessly to build up the Youth Wrestling program and get parents involved as volunteers in the system. He was also instrumental in leading the school to converting unused classroom space into a badly-needed Wrestling Practice facility."

The semi driver was identified as a 50-year-old man from Belgrade. He was apparently not injured in the crash.
