The Curtain Finally Falls on the Cottage View Drive-In
Bob Hill says, he is setting up his not so well thought out contraption to watch a flick at the Cottage View drive-in for the last time.
"We're going miss it, I grew up in Cottage Grove and I remember going here with my mom and dad when I was a kid," Hill said.
With it being the last night and all, mother nature sure didn't help out. For a while it looked as though no one was going to show up.
But eventually Hill and forty other cars and SUV's began rolling in.
Inside the projector room, manager Ed Stofferahn, strings up one of his last reels.
He says, the very first movie played at the Cottage View drive-in was in 1966. They showed "A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." In 2012 the last flick they will play is "The Amazing Spider Man."
Ed says, 90 acres including this outdoor theater will give way to big business, WalMart business.
"After Wal Mart gets developed people follow, the other retails will follow," Ed said.
For Hill and all the folks who showed up here for the last time, they say, it tugs at their hearts knowing the curtain has fallen on the Cottage View drive-in.
"This is an era gone by, this is a beautiful place," Hill said.
