EmailSex Offender Denied Release Appeals Ruling
One of the state's most violent sex offenders wants to be released from the state's sex offender treatment program, but last year a three-judge panel said no. Wednesday, John Rydberg's attorney was back in court to appeal.
Rydberg has a long history of violent offenses that date back to the 1970s, when he broke into a couple's Wisconsin home and raped and assaulted them.
Last year, the nearly 70-year-old Rydberg said he will always have violent thoughts, but after nearly 20 years of treatment he can now control his impulses.
Rydberg's attorney says the integrity of the treatment program itself is now on the line.
The state argued back, saying Rydberg preyed on strangers, and worries he wouldn't be able to adjust to society.
The three-judge panel now has 90 days to issue an opinion.
