Police Release Few Details on Richfield Shooting

A Richfield police officer shot and killed a man who investigators say was wielding a knife.

Officers were called to a home about 9 a.m. Friday on a report of an emotionally disturbed man and a potential hostage situation.

Maj. Kip Carver of the Hennepin County sheriff's office refused to disclose details of what happened, or to answer reporters' questions, but called the case "a very active investigation."

According to property records the owner of the house is Kathleen Brockmeier.

Neighbors told KSTP her nephew was living with her and may be the man who was shot.

Mickey Anderson is a neighbor and friend of Brockmeier and says she's not sure how long her nephew has been living in the house.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
